In 1986 Mr Rodney Wade, founder of Leaf Eater Products Pty Ltd, recognised the need a solution to the problem of leaves and debris in roof gutters and poor quality tank water. Manufacturing of the early versions of the Leaf Eater® commenced in 1997. It was the first multiple screen rain head developed, and by providing an insect proof water catchment device and hassle free leaf and debris exclusion system for roof gutters, it was an instant success.
After three years of development trials, production began in 1992 of an all steel system now known as Blue Mountain Mesh®. The product was the first of its kind and was a BlueScope Steel Award Nominee in its first year.
In 2003 the third edition of the Sustainable Water from Rain Harvesting book was published. The book provided the first comprehensive guide to planning and installing a complete rainwater collection and storage system.
